Star Awards: TRENDING na!

To get an idea of what's trending in fashion, people refer to dresses during publicized social events like balls and awards nights. You know something is uso when almost everyone is wearing the same style, parang costume sa sabayang pagbigkas. For others, keri nila but for some, parang gusto ko tanungin na "teh, costume? San ang shooting?"

Then there are the outliers. These are people who wear out-of-this-world dresses in an attempt to set a trend. In fair sa iba, they are successful enough that everyone will be carrying the style in the next event. For some, wish mo nalang na malipat sila out of this world. Chuice!

Just recently PMPC held the 25th Star Awards for television. Shempre pabonggahan na namanng outFET ang ating mga local celebrities.

At ang mga nagwagi...

Toni Gonzaga

Simple cut dress in plain black matched with earrings that are not to0 showy as well. Pero dinaan sa sequins ang pangangabog! Para siyang night sky na maraming stars. Or baso ng Coke na maraming bula... so refreshing. CHAROT

Gretchen Barretto

Meanwhile La Greta looked regal in her purple (?) dress na parang may kapa. This goes to show that all you need is the right cut and fit. No need for too much detail. I think only Gretchen can pull this off. Kung iba, pwedeng:

1. Magmukhang Barney
2. Tumganggap ng diploma sa stage
3. Ma-cast sa Season 2 ng GAME OF THRONES!!!

Now here's one who seemed to follow the lace trend that night

Charo Santos-Concio

O diba win? Not afraid to show some skin! Kahit she's on the chubbier side lately feeling sexy pa rin!

Joining her is...

Angel Aquino

Angel followed the lace trend but also made a statement in glamorized kaliskis. This is what I mean by out of this world pero kering-keri lang.

Piolo Pascual

Always dapper and forever gwapo Papa P. With formal menswear, you're stuck with the suit or barong. But notice how he gave extra attention to the fabric and the plaid bowtie to make sure that he stood out. Pansinin lang din ang pants. LEGGINGS??? AYAW NI KC!

Coco Martin

Ay ewan ko natunaw lang talaga ako ulit kay Coco. It's really his face that makes him a winner all the time. Kebs sa damit, actually kahit wala siyang saplot bibigyan ko pa rin siya ng best dressed award dahil ang pogi niya! Charot!!!!

And then may mga sumunod sa lace trend na mejo hindi successful...

Aiko Melendez

Teh, peg mo ba si Maria Dolorosa or si St. Veronica??? And what's with the labandera hairstyle?? Well kung si Aiko santa ang peg, eto naughty...

KC Concepcion

Catwoman/ hooker? At ansabe ng kadena??? Feeling ko pantali yan kay Piolo para hindi na makawala! And please call Alterations Plus for your ill-fitting pants. Teh, Kinabog ka pa ni Piolo sa sikip ng pantalon niya ha!

Notice now that black was uso that night too? Well it's basic and safe. But may sablay pa rin...

Yayo Aguila

Notice the hairstyle and the puffy sleeves. Anu yan??? PEG: Amazona attending the graduation rites! heehee

Aiai delas Alas

BEST IN ARTS AND CRAFT! Dress out of niyupi-yuping illustration board! CHUICE!!!

Speaking of arts and craft dear Janice de Belen, alam kong mahal na mahal mo si Budoy...

Pero hindi accessories ang art project niya sa school!

Isabit mo nalang sa cabinet. Or ipaframe. And speaking of being creative in using various materials...

Vicky Morales

Teh, nagrereklamo na yung kapitbahay mo. Ang init init na daw ng bahay nila. Pakibalik na nung insulator na pang kisame.

And you may think that since men have few options for their attire, wala nang sablay, pwes meron pa rin based on overall look

Enchong Dee

Your outfit was ok. BUT I KNOW WHERE YOU HAD YOUR HORRIBLE HAIR DONE...

Gandang Mother Ricky!!!

And of course, the awards night is not just about the winners and the "fashion show". Marami din siyang aspects like the cause or advocacy of the event. Feeling ko ang chosen cause for this year ay...

SAVE THE SEAS!!!

And then, just like any other social gathering, hindi pwedeng mawala ang pakain courtesy of...

OFFICIAL CATERER: SNOOKI SERNA CATERING SERVICES

I heard that the menu was composed of kiddie food like...

3-in-1 + 1 HAPPY KAARAWAN!! and...

BUBBLE TAPE! (Oy favorite ko to!)

Finally, hindi pwedeng mawala ang katangi-tanging GUEST OF HONOR. This year, they invited someone special from the States to grace the occasion. Ang sikat na sikat at walang kupas after so many years na...

THE MUPPETS!!!! CHOZ

May upcoming awards night pa ba?

Baboo!

May Halloween Costume Ka Na?

So it's two weeks before Halloween and it looks like the city is keeping up. Proof:

1. Halloween decors in malls
2. Trick or treat in villages
3. ANG DAMING PEZ. katakot. Chuice! Ganda ko eh!

Well, even Glee has joined the bandwagon! For this week's episode they are doing the Rocky Horror Show!

HOMAYGOD. I'm not familiar with the Rocky Horror Show but what's sending chills down my spine are the abs-sightings HAHA PAKALANDEE!

Anyhoo, shempre uso din ang Halloween parties. Following the tradition, people wear scary outfits but as time went by, naging pa-cute nalang ang halloween. If not, slutty. So allow me to make some suggestions

1. Cartoon Characters

O diba? Perfect scare for kids who love watching cartoons! Tingnan natin kung sinong hindi bangungutin niyan. hahah

Si Spongebob actually nakakagago. But the teletubbies are freaky!!! Habulin ka ni Tinky Winky gusto mo???

And tweety bird?

Sarap to the bones! Chuice!

2. "Security" items

When we are afraid of something we turn to our blankets, pillows and teddy bears. So why not come in a horror version of them? Tamang psycho torture lang

3. Scary people

Ok so hindi to joking matter but you could just imagine how you will terrify people if you come as Andal Ampatuan or drive around like Jason Ivler. Wag lang masaydong karir ang looks kasi baka masaktan ka ng di oras.

4. Philippine Horror.

YEHES Sariling atin! Pero shempre dahil party to, dapat glamorous! Thanks to looklet, i've recreated some of them... with added flair of course!

White lady

O diba? Feeling ko pag eto ang rumampa sa Balete drive lahat ng driver ganito ang mukha

EEEW!

Black Lady

Taray lang! Sorry but she reminds me of

Bale...ang tunay na black lady. Chuice!
(Bawal kumontra ang Glutamax, okey?!)

Manananggal

Mukhang dracula pero pwede na rin. haha

Tikbalang

Shet fierce! In fairness pwede siyang chess piece. Horse and warrior in one. Wa say si

Aswang!
Mylene Dizon??!?!?! Chez.

So now, take your pick! Who's your Halloween Queen?

New Killer Vehicles of the Philippines?

Back in Davao I love riding the bus. It was a blessing when I reach the highway just in time for the bus to pass by because it was aircon and I did not have to share a jeepney with pails of fish. Kadireee. My family would take a 12-hour bus ride too when we visit my Dad's hometown in Biliran

You see, a bus experience is wonderful especially when its cold and when there's a DVD player. Basta hindi tagalog action movie ah! But buses in the metro are different.

Yup, they are smoke belchers and they squeeze you along EDSA like you squeeze cheese pimento in a pandesal. WHAT. Lately, they have been through much bad light.

They get bombed

They fall off the cliff

They even kill a Bb. Pilipinas

And now they play host to a saddening hostage drama. With this, I think buses are the new killer vehicles of the Philippines. Oh no ano nalang ang sasabihin ni...

Claire dela fuente!!!

Shucks baka eto nalang ang bus na sasakyan ko...

Weeeeeeee!

Anyway, this is really a depressing day for the Philippines. Once again, the international community is raising their eyebrows at us in terms of trade and tourism. I pity those Pinoys abroad who may be treated differently after this situation.

Oh well, as the saying goes, when God closes the door...

He opens a window!

Good luck to Venus Raj tomorrow! May you bring home the crown and help make the Philippines proud again!

On a serious note, I pray that we continue the pride of being Filipinos. We have been through quite a lot yet we are still alive and we never cease to achieve in various fields.

Chuice!

Yes, Disney Villains HAVE PINOY TWINS!

I am proud to say that I am a fan of Pinoy films. When I was young, I would stay up a little late on Monday nights just to watch Regal Films Presents where they show old and a little more recent Tagalog movies produced by well, Regal Films.

Blame the said TV program, I am kinda well-versed with Filipino showbiz personalities. EXCUSEEES! From the bidas like Nora Aunor to contrabidas like Bella Flores and from the royalties like Vilma Santos to the has-beens like...uhm... Bunny Paras. Nyare?

Speaking of silver screen villains remember the "phone call" I got recently?

Well madam, eto na fuh!

If you are familiar with pinoy contrabidas, well you may have noticed that some Disney villains look like them. PROMISE. And not just because they play the same role of tormenting poor ladies but some facial features are really similar.

You wanna see? But before that, just a little favor. If you guys know them personally wag niyo ako isumbong please!!!! I look to them with respect for their craft and talent. Thanks!!!:D

Let's begin...

Ok you have seen this already but I just had to repeat. O ha, wala siyang tentacles pero dinaan niya sa hairstyle!

O diba? As far as I can remember Chin-chin has always been a contrabida. I believe this picture was taken for her soap Maging Sino ka Man where she played an exemplary role as Corazon Roxas- Berenguer. (ALAM???)

Hair pa lang Cruella De Ville na! Not to mention the frilly top, the high eyebrows and the pout. Kulang na lang dalmatian!

This is cute! In terms of the face, it's kinda far except perhaps for the skin complexion. But look at the crow and the hand, mas magkamukha sila! haha

Remember her? Well she's Odette Khan a.k.a Dona Trining from Valiente (Hi Magel!) Pinagbiyak na bunga. Chuice!

The last person isn't exactly a contrabida but she kinda looks like him (Ano daw??!?) Anyway here it goes...

Kabog! Chuice!

Hmm in fairness, doing this was challenging but it was kinda fun. I'll try to look around for some more :) hihi

It's the SONA Fashion Show!

Ever since the Arroyo regime, I always made sure I'd be able to watch the State of the Nation Address (SONA). Well, GMA used it to brag about all her achievements and cover up all her dirty jobs but at least, we get to hear things on a more positive note. I also watch out for the future plans that our government wish to take and gauge whether I should build my future in the country or just leave for good. Ok I'm kidding. I'm an advocate of nation-building so the last thing I'd do is fly away.

Mixed reactions surfaced regarding P'Noy's SONA. Some people said it was too blaming while others think it was just right. I'm for the latter. Its the State of the Nation Address and I hope we can all stop denying the real state which is, we are in peril. What I really liked about his speech was his way of showcasing his cabinet members. It was a display of their competence and the president's confidence that I think we should all start having, until they become anomalous.

Simply put, let's give this administration a chance. Enough criticisms. For now.

SERIOUUUUUUUUUS! *nosebleed*

Anyhoo (ayan na...) another thing I watch out for is the SONA Fashion Show. Yes, in this time of the year, people parade their barong tagalogs and ternos for all the world to see. Plus they get to say on camera "Oh this is by (insert name of designer)" Which is a subtle way of saying " I have pork barrel therefore I'm rich and I can afford a dress made by so and so"

As usual,no matter who made your frock, everything could still be a hit or miss depending on how you package yourself. Read related post here.

Let's start with the hits!

No. 1 on the list is our dear President Noynoy

Kerreh! Chuice lang!

I really think Liz Uy is doing a great job styling him. Now he looks dapper and far from being sloppy like he was just several months ago. Sana lang noh! His haircut is bagay too. Shows less of his bald spots. I should know. Nakakrelate na ako jan. Shet.

Then there's the ever fashyon

Risa Hontiveros

Risa came in a stylized tapis. Emphasis on stylized. That means made of expensive fabric with appliques. Baka daw kasi tapunan ni Clara/Gladys Reyes ng labahan at basahan siya ng MOD Magazine!!! haha

Always pretty

Audrey Tan-Zubiri

Her outfit reminds me of an onion. Sibuyas bumbay to be exact. But it was still very classy.

And of course

Now Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez

She looked like a goddess. She's not really that beautiful but she's white. Parang aparisyon. And the color suited her well. Very elegant! Not to mention the arm candy. (pweh dilf-hunter much?) I wonder how Richard feels? He must be drooling with envy... over the dress. Chuice!

Then there were those who missed. Let's start with the guys

Senator Allan Peter Cayetano

No. Colored barong is really tacky. Please keep that in mind.

And oh my gosh

Rep. Teodoro Casino

Can I call him bad boy? Not just because he is an activist and all he did was whine and complain and be bad but WTH is he wearing? Bad fit of barong. Bad fit of trousers. Bad shoes. Bad bag. Bad haircut. And don't get me started on the print. Nakakasuka. I get you and I agree but please channel your battle cries in session instead k?

Then the ladies...

Assunta de Rossi

Ateh late ka na for the Inauguration!!!! haha

and yes, I cried.
Pia Hontiveros

In my last post, I praised Pia Hontiveros but this is a nightmare!!! 1. Please explain this fabric and color palette. 2. She looked like an aged ninang and 3. WHY IS THE CARPET CONNECTED TO YOUR PUSON???

Wait there's more. I really feel lumalabas ang sungay ko but I can't help it. For this section, lets play fashion face off. If you don't know this think "who wore it better" or Victoria Valera of House of Ronaldo versus Vera Cruz of Vera Couture (updated?!). You be the judge.

ROUND 1

ROUND 2

ROUND 3

ROUND 4

ROUND 5

Stop na! Again and again, K.I.S.S! Gets? Mwah!
